GENERAL INFORMATION The idea and Spirit of the archive is to share with others the magic that we get to experience on a regular basis. The idea and Spirit of the beach and drumcircle is that everyone can come and be themselves, without judgment or exclusion, so sometimes the music reflects that, in a seemingly unified hodge-podge of melodies and beats....and then sometimes and somehow it seems to MAGICALLY come together in a single driven force and rhythm that has the whole place up and dancing towards some unseen common purpose and/or realm. There are no scripts, no sheet music, musical scores, etc. The people who gather at the beautiful blacksand Kehena Beach in lower Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii every Sunday to freely participate in the playing of instruments are doing so in a casual, relaxed and unscripted setting. Don't expect studio productions, because it's easy for the musicians to get interrupted or sidetracked while playing in a beautiful place with such lively dancing and partying people....but then again don't be surprised if you find yourself tapping or bouncing along to a beat or two while exploring even the lesser quality tracks. The ratings systems associated with the files "MAY"..."SOMEDAY"...be better organized, but at this point, we are just trying to create a basic archive that any/every one can share and/or enjoy. We have added the letters "AAA", "AA", and/or "A" in the filenames to some that we consider of better "overall" quality...but ratings are subjective. Adding this will pull the supposed better cuts to the top of the server list for easier identification, and also while leaving the original filenames intact. Dates and times indicated reflect upload data....not recording data. Filesnames with a single "Z" or multiple "Z"s' at the end of them are just there to differentiate between duplicate filenames generated by the recorders during production. All of the files in the archive are unedited and were originally recorded in High Quality Stereo(HQST) at 44.1kHz sampling rate in Windows Media Audio(.wma) file format. In an effort to retain and preserve as much sound quality as possible, they are fairly large in file/bandwidth size which puts recording quality above MP3 levels. A player that plays Windows Media Audio files(.wma) will be needed to play the files, and they also can be converted to MP3 or other formats for use in such devices as IPods and the like if you have the proper sound editing soft/hard warez. We have no plans to convert these to MP3(or other formats), so if you do convert and want to share, or discover someone who has, please feel free to contact us. Some files capture the Spirit and feel of the beach better than others via background noises like waves, wind, dogs, kids, conversations, music, etc.....and listening to them randomly, in whole or in part, helps to recreate that. We don't always get to listen to the day's archive before uploading to our servers, so you may want to drop us a line if you think a track deserves to be pulled up or knocked down in the rankings.
